Transformational Leadership Key: Embrace and Mobilize for Change
In the world of direct selling whether your organization is just yourself or consists of hundreds of thousands of individual distributors, one of the most important ideas is: Change now, before you run out of time!
If you are the leader of an organization, you know that change is not easy at all to most people. It would be great for the leader to just announce a new vision and have your distributors just implement this new change (vision).
However, most of us know that change rarely works like this. As a matter of fact, it seems that most of the time change is one of the hardest this to accomplish.
In the direct selling industry, the way of doing business is going to change or in a lot of cases has already changed dramatically. So, what does this mean to you?
Perhaps it is time for your company to create new products or change the type of business environment they are currently working within. Either way, it is going to take every distributor to embrace this change to make it successful.
So where do you begin? How about…
Make each day the first day as a new distributor!
What does that mean?
Wake up each and every day to new thoughts about your business. Examine all aspects of your business with a new perspective and do not be afraid to make the necessary changes in your organization. Most importantly, do not rest on your successes. Make it a habit to examine your failures as well as your successes.
One of the best ways to improve yourself or your organization is to take a look at what is working for others. This most likely will mean that you should look outside your organization and your company to other similar companies.
Most likely you have been taught to just follow your up line and duplicate their efforts. This may have worked back in the good old days, but we are in a new era with access to information and technology that was not even thought of when most of our up line had become “successful.”
Distributors Have Good Ideas Too
Do not fall into the trap that a lot of direct selling organizations fall into, which is all the good ideas come from the leadership.
Why don`t you set-up a communication portal with your organization and encourage feedback, new ideas, suggestions etc. Also ensure that you give credit back to the individual that gave you that new idea and make it public knowledge. If you want buy-in from your distributors for change in your organization, include them in the vision and listen to their ideas as well.
Even if you are the most successful distributor in your organization (company), there is always room for improvement. Why just try and reach the standards of the company when you can set your own standards that far exceed those of the company.
Desire to want more than what your company has set for their standards. Desire to change your competitive landscape by being not just better than your competitors, but by taking your business practices to a whole new level. Desire to make your business practices so special, so incredibly valuable to your distributors and/or customers, that your organizations product or service offering become their only real value choice.
Kevin McNabb’s Leadership Take-A-Way
Embrace change. Successful distributors who decide to treat change like the enemy will fail in direct selling. In the direct selling industry, change is the only real constant, and successful distributors need to be able to read the constantly changing direct selling environment.
Communicate to your down line that change never ends. Teach each of your distributors that change is a great opportunity, a challenge that can be harnessed with hard work and knowledge.
Constantly review and rewrite your organizations agenda. Successful “master” distributors encourage their organization to be prepared to re-examine their business practices and to make changes when necessary.
